RISD Partners with Hipster T-Shirt Company to Raise $ RISD's renaissance-man president, John Maeda has "curated" a t-shirt line for the clothing company Threadless for its "Threadless Select Series." It is their first guest-juried series.
Maeda placed call for t-shirt designs on his blog and selected submissions based on his theme, "newness."
Threadless will make $15,000 donation to RISD’s scholarship fund from sales and artists' commissions from the project - so don't feel too vain about looking hip.
You can get your Maeda-adjudicated t-shirt after the series launches on a 6 November unveiling ceremony in RISD's new Chace Center at risd|works or TheSelectSeries.com
Maeda says that "This project with Threadless has been a great opportunity to explore this timely theme [of newness] together. We are amidst the election season here in the U.S., and a movement is arising driven by a palpable desire for change." - I'll won't chide them for their arguably liberal use of the word "curate," but this statement is a little sensational.
