"sleazy overseas billionaires" sounds a little too jingoistic/ xenophobic...can't one acknowledge their own continental sleazy billionaires in all this?

OK. Comment noted. We have lots of sleazy billionaires here too although while still sleazy maybe less billionair-ish these days.

"media-centered, image-crazed" -this describes good artists.

"fashion 'collectibles' that had waiting lists of customers willing to pay small fortunes for…oh gosh….a piece of leather on a strap." -isn't your work about fashion? or deploy fashion as content? Art is a collectible. Deal.

You should note that people die or get hurt in poorly made cars. Collectors aren't at risk when they are unsatisfied with bad art collecting. They will readjust their tastes and buy good art, according to what now suddenly appears more "honest." We don't need a taste bureaucracy.

Sorry, you lost me at 'taste'. Tightening definitions of art and art by committee are ideas that are a tad too fascistic for me. Frankly I don't want you (or anyone) paring 'uninteresting' art down for me because current art and art world trends don't align themselves with your personal career plans.

Whine, whine, whine. Is it fascistic of me to want to impose a ban on the words 'navel-gazing' and 'formaldehyde' in articles such as this?

i'm not sure you caught the points in the article... it notes the problem of over-inflation and over-hyped artists. the artists can become a brand name that is fashionable one year, and a dud the next. this is bad for everyone, like the housing bubble.

if a gallery raises the price to a level the "market" can't absorb...selling prices don't go down, the artists are often just dropped. that artist's "brand" or "style" or "taste" has evaporated for collectors. this can be very difficult for the artist turn around.

the article is also asking for the artist to have something to bite into that isn't a hyped up snack food, in the hopes of creating long term "value", whatever that means to you. doesn't mean that it has to be an oil painting, or be "soulful", just something invested that isn't necessarily readily consumed.

I can't get over this creepy article. Majorly creepy. I think its really insulting to hear you call most others' art uninteresting in 2010 without citing specific examples, as if, by contrast, yours is interesting. Please back off. We know no one can sell a painting right now. You know what? You're not helping by insulting wealthy art collectors, who in my experience, have often been gracious and tasteful enough to buy a painting or two and save my life.

Also, "limitless freedom" sounds great, "a hard day's work" sounds dreadful, and I've always resented art that has tried to enrich my soul. If I liked that feeling I would still be a church-goer. If I liked quality control, I would pay my taxes.

I do want to apologize for the facebook remark. There are some artists who mount their work there and it is a joy to the eye. But using facebook as a quasi-conceptual armature on which to brand themselves on people's brains is intrusive, manipulative and cheap. Why don't I just say what I think? It is only an opinion, btw, backed by zero erudition. Disclaim...no offense intended.
How'm I doing, coach? An extremely formal (but schmaltzy) composition based on intersecting triangles which contrast nicely with the rounded naked woman whose visage the painter obviously found pleasing to behold. It has long been socially acceptably to depict naked people doing darn near anything as long as in context of mythological or historical allusion. Some people still feel that admitting one admires naked people in their own right is symptomatic of low character.

Thank you bigred for putting up more pics from this show. I know that there were many more people in attendance but now I get to see more pics of the actual work. Maybe there will be pics from last night's show at fivesevendelle cause there were so many people i could barely see any of Corey Corcoran's work.
